Injured eagle released back to the wild

Posted: Updated:

CRAB ORCHARD LAKE -- An eagle hit by a car on Route 13 a few weeks ago is now "free again."

Beverly Shofstall with Free Again Wildlife Rehabilitation released the eagle near Crab Orchard lake Monday. She monitored it over the last three weeks.

The bird didn't have any broken bones but did have a concussion and some bruising.

Monday, Shofstall determined the bird was healthy enough to return to the wild.

"You always hope that it goes well, so there's that excitement, the wonderful excitement, and always that little bit of trepidation and hope that it does as well as you want," Shofstall said.

Shofstall said the eagle's instincts should direct it to return to a normal life immediately.
