Jack's Meat Market tops Oct. 2 Restaurant Report Card

Posted: Updated:

WSIL -- The Jackson County inspector gave Jack's Meat Market and Deli in Murphysboro a 97. The three compartment sink wasn't set up right in the kitchen, resulting in a two point loss.

Also in Jackson County, Happy Reunion in Carbondale received an 82. Twenty-five total infractions were noted, including two critical violations.

The first was loss of four points because sanitizer levels were not up to par in the dish machine. Another four points were deducted because light could be seen underneath the door. That's a cause for concern in terms of rodents and insects getting inside the restaurant. However, no pests were found, but it's still a critical violation.

Raw chicken was found stored above fresh fruit. Several cleaning violations also racked up. The wok, skillets, and make prep tables were among the spots that needed to be cleaned better in the kitchen. A second check found the problem areas had been taken care of, including the malfunctioning dish machine...

Iron Horse Pub in Sesser got a 92 from the Franklin County inspector. There were no critical violations found. But several cleaning issues were discovered-- including the wall, equipment in the kitchen and silverware storage area. The restaurant was reminded to have a certified manager on duty at all times as well.

The Marion location of 17th Street Bar and Grill was a point higher. The Williamson County inspector gave the spot a 93. Grill brushes were found on the floor by the ice maker and some areas needed to be cleaned better too.

Fat Bottom Betty's in Carbondale got a 96. The inspector reminded management that all people in the food prep area need proper hair restraints.
