CARBONDALE -- It was a successful night Saturday for what's now being called the largest 5K in Southern Illinois.
The For Kids' Sake Superhero 5K celebrated its 7th run as racers donned their capes and laced up their running shoes.
Over 400 participants took part in the race, helping to raise over $38,000 for children in rural Bangladesh.
"It takes 500 dollars to support an orphan for a year," organizer Shema Ruprto said. "It's phenomenal how far money can go and the impact we can have.>"
Ruprto said cooperation with city leaders led to the event's success, as they helped bring the community together for a good cause.
Evangelist Franklin Graham prayed on a sidewalk outside the Pentagon Thursday after his invitation to a prayer service inside was withdrawn because of comments that insulted people of other religions. More>>
