Two killed in crash in Saline County

SALINE CO. -- The Saline County Sheriff's office has released the names of those involved in Sunday's accident on U.S Route 45.

Brenda L. Ward, 51, of Harrisburg died in the crash. She drove a GMC Sierra southbound.

Linda D. Ghent, 70, of Harrisburg, also died in the crash. She was a passenger in a GMC Canyon that headed northbound. Her husband, Bill Ghent, 69, was hurt in the crash.

Investigators still don't know what caused the accident.

ORIGINAL STORY

WSIL -- Two people were killed when a pair of pick-up trucks collided head-on Sunday evening in Saline County, according to authorities. 

Illinois State Police said the crash happened at 6:40 p.m. on US-45 at Rays Road, just north of Ledford. 

State police say the two vehicles involved were a GMC Sierra truck and a Chevrolet Colorado truck.

The driver of the GMC Sierra and a passenger in the Chevrolet Colorado died at the scene. 

The driver of the Chevrolet Colorado was taken to the hospital.

The identities of the people involved have not been released.

A crash reconstruction officer has been assigned to the investigation.

The crash shut down the highway for several hours, as officers and emergency workers responded to the scene.

The crash remains under investigation and more information will be released at a later time.
