Three Democratic governor candidates gather in Harrisburg

HARRISBURG-- Democrats in Saline County gathered in Harrisburg Saturday night to meet three democratic candidates for governor.

J.B. Pritzker, Chris Kennedy and Bob Daiber all called for an end to party politics and said it was time to reach across the aisle and work together.

"Whether you're a Republican or a Democrat, I think everybody believes about this state that we need the state to be one of the best in the nation. In fact, I believe it," Pritzker said.

Also in attendance was former state representative Brandon Phelps.

Phelps stepped down from his seat last week due to health concerns and his cousin was appointed to fill the seat.

He says he can rest easy knowing the seat is in good hands.

"Maybe I'm a Democrat but I always reach across the aisle and I have just as many Republican friends as I do democrat friends. But I pride myself on that and she'll be the same way," said Phelps

Phelps said he is facing several surgeries related to the eye injury that led to his resignation.

Natalie Phelps-Finnie is the first woman to be appointed to the 118th district.
