CARBONDALE -- WBDX and Arnette's Barbershop in Carbondale are collecting money for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts until Wednesday.

Organizers of the donation said they encourage people to give toiletries, bottled water, non-perishable foods and clothing. They said monetary donations are discouraged, any money donated will be used to buy bottled water.

Next week, Arnette's staff will deliver those donations to Houston. Owner Lenorris Hughes, who also volunteered during the disastrous Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, said he will stay in Houston after delivering the items.

"Our focus is usually on our immediate neighborhood or on our region," WDBX station manager Dave Armstrong said in a press release. "But when something like this happens, we all have to re-think what the word 'community' means and pull together."

You can donate at WDBX at 224 N. Washington St. and at Arnette's Barbershop, 108 E. Oak St.
