Tattoos for Rescues raises money for local shelter

CARBONDALE -- A little ink and a little pain was all it took Saturday to give to the St. Francis Care Animal Shelter in Jackson County.

St. Francis Care contacted Artistic Mind Tattoos as a way to raise money for the shelter.

All proceeds from the tattoos and piercings went to the no-kill animal shelter.

Organizers said the amount of support has been amazing.

"We've gotten a really good reception here to day," said Christin King, event coordinator and shelter manager at St. Francis Care. "There was a line here when I pulled up at 11:20 this morning. We've gotten a lot of Facebook reception on this and a lot of messages on Facebook. We've got a lot of new people involved in St. Francis that weren't before because of something like this."

Hundreds poured through the doors of Artistic Mind Tattoo to get some ink for furry friends. Within an hour of opening, the shop had raised over a thousand dollars and the wait for a tattoo was over two hours.

John Beyler , owner of Artistic Mind Tattoos, said rescue animals a special place with him as he has adopted several rescue cats and dogs over the years.

King said the shelter is always in need of supplies including food and medical supplies and the tattoo drive was a great way to raise money.
