High schoolers paint their parking spots for behavioral health program

Posted: Updated:

MURPHYSBORO -- Some students at Murphysboro High School spent the day painting their parking spots to raise money for the school's behavioral health services programs.

About 30 high school seniors donated money to paint and personalize their parking spaces for the school year, and they raised more than $400 for the school's Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program.

Organizers said they were looking for a way to raise money for the programs, and several students showed interest in customizing their parking spots.

"We stole the idea from the internet," high schooler Andrea Geis said. "We were looking for a quick and easy way to raise funds for our PBIS program and some students had mentioned some interest in this, so we thought why not go for it."

Organizers said they're going to continue this next year and hope more students will participate after seeing the painted parking spaces.
