Johnson Co. couple wants privacy back after map directs drivers to their home

Posted: Updated:

JOHNSON CO. -- A mapping error re-routes tourists away from popular destinations and takes them directly to a Johnson County couple's doorstep. The couple said they're now getting dozens of unexpected guests showing up at their home.

"It's just a little annoying, you know," said Johnson County resident Ann Stachowiak.

Her husband agreed.

"First couple times it happened, we thought it was just a fluke and then we got on the iPhone app and found that it was leading people right to our house," said Alan Stachowiak.

It's been happening to the couple for the past few months and during the eclipse weekend, it escalated. They said they had about 15 cars come up each day. The couple estimates three to four hundred cars have stopped at their home over the past 4 months.

"They're lost and they don't know where they are going. So we always come out and ask where they are going," Ann said.

A majority of the lost tourists are heading to Garden of the Gods, Camp Ondessonk or Lake Glendale. But for some strange reason, the iPhone map application takes some drivers through Tunnel Hill Trail and straight to their home.

The couple said other apps don't have this problem, and hopes it gets fixed soon.

"You know I'll be in my work clothes, you know, working and sweaty and hot. I'm not ready for guests like that," Ann said.

They've tried contacting Apple, but didn't get far.

"We've complained six or seven times, several times. He's called, I've called," Ann said.

"We don't mind meeting new people but the idea is that they're wasting a lot of time and money and gas, and we'd like Apple or whoever is responsible for this to fix it," Alan said.

News 3 reached out to Apple and have not yet received a response.
