Eclipse traveler found dead in local park

JEFFERSON CO. -- Authorities have released the identity of a man found dead in a Mt. Vernon park.

The Jefferson County Coroner says 54-year-old James Allen Bradbury of Connecticut died Monday.

His body was found just after 6:00 a.m. Monday in front of the Roland Lewis Building at Veterans Park.

Police say a passerby reported seeing an unconscious man in the parking lot.

Mt. Vernon Assistant Police Chief Trent Page says no foul play is suspected.

"With the coroner's ruling that it's a natural cause, the police department would not have any further part of the investigation unless new information came up that somehow made it or suspected that criminal matter could be involved," said Chief Page.

The coroner says Bradbury died of a pulmonary embolism brought on by complications with lung cancer.

His family told the coroner Bradbury was traveling from Connecticut to Makanda to view the eclipse.
