SIU hosts Eclipse Comic Con

CARBONDALE -- Superheroes, super villains and everyone in-between packed into the SIU Student Center Saturday for Eclipse Comic Con.

Yoda, Darth Vader and other characters roamed the lines of vendors at the event, which featured thousands of comic books, and other memorabilia.

"I went to the vendors, which had all kinds of different things," Erica Hansen said. "Art and comics and figures and photo opportunities, I got my picture taken in the Tardis, which was kind of awesome."

Hansen attended the event dressed in costume from Victorian England. The Tardis is a staple from the long-running BBC series Doctor Who.

She said her favorite parts were in the game room, which allowed people to compete in Magic the Gathering, Pokemon, Dungeons and Dragons and other games.

"I thought 'Hey, its a cool opportunity for me to go and dress up and hang around with people who have similar mindsets and interests,'" Hansen said.

She said she's also really looking forward to tomorrow's costume competition.

Nathan Bonner helped organize the event and said so far, it's been better than he could have expected.

"I've seen an incredible turnout," Bonner said. "All of the vendors have been very very helpful and seem very enthusiastic, and there's a lot of people in costume."

If you missed Eclipse Comic Con Saturday, it'll be open Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
