Jefferson County NAACP prepares for state convention

Posted: Updated:

MT. VERNON -- The Jefferson County NAACP hosted the state's quarterly meeting in Mt. Vernon Sunday morning.

Among the topics discussed was the situation in Cairo and what members across the state can do to help, but the primary focus was on planning for the state convention, which the branch will be hosting in October.

Organizers said they hope the convention brings the community in Mt. Vernon together to better understand what the NAACP represents.

"I'm hoping that Mt. Vernon at large will understand that the NAACP is truly an American organization that's here to make a difference throughout our country," said Erie Patton, president of the Jefferson County NAACP.

The state convention will take place in Mt. Vernon from Oct. 13 to 15.
