Pritzker spends an additional $7 million on gubernatorial race

Posted: Updated:

WSIL -- Democrat J.B. Pritzker pumped another $7 million into his campaign for governor.

All together, he's given more than $21 million toward his race for the nomination, and that means he's approaching a state record of the most money spent by a Democratic candidate on themselves for a primary.

John Jackson with the Paul Simon Public Policy institute said since Pritzker has never been in politics, he's trying hard to get name recognition, something Governor Bruce Rauner already has.

"He's lightyears already behind Bruce Rauner," he said. "Keep in mind Rauner and his friend Ken Griffin together put $70 million into Rauner's campaign already."

Jackson said even with all of the Pritzker TV ads, its going to be difficult even for a billionaire to keep up with the governor and his supporters.
