Man dies in Murphysboro after being trapped under an antique tractor

UPDATE 10:30 p.m.: Deputies have identified the victim as Benjamin Arbeiter, 40, of Murphysboro.

JACKSON CO. -- Late Saturday night, a man was pronounced dead after being trapped under an antique tractor.

Jackson County deputies responded shortly after 11:00 p.m. to a property outside of Murphysboro where they found a family member using a tractor with a loader attempting to lift the trailer the tractor was on. 

Authorities said the man was trapped under the front end of a tractor against the tongue of the trailer hauling the tractor.

Fire crews then stabilized the front end of the tractor, which had rolled off the front end of the trailer. Crews were able to remove the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident is under investigation.
