Early morning fire in Carterville destroys home

CARTERVILLE -- Fire crews in Carterville were called out around midnight on Saturday for reports of a house fire.

When firefighters arrived minutes later, they found a home on the corner of Blossom Street and Missouri Avenue fully engulfed in flames.

Carterville's fire chief said the home was empty at the time, but there was electricity to the house.

Carterville has called in the fire marshal to investigate the cause of the fire.
