JOHNSON CO. -- Authorities have released new info on the eight-vehicle crash that happened on I-24 Friday afternoon.

Illinois State Police say eight vehicles were headed westbound on I-24 near mile marker 1.5.

The following is a list of those vehicles and their drivers:

2016 Peterbilt -- Nathan Fast, 37, of Byron, Minnesota
2006 Corrolla -- Brant Francis, 21, of Paris, Missouri
GMC 3500 (unknown year) -- Lawrence Sutton, 38, of Jackson, South Carolina
2016 Toyota 4Runner -- Naeen Shaikh, 59, of Paducah, Kentucky
2016 Nissan Altima -- Timothy Williams, 55, of Springhill, Tennessee
2011 Honda Odyssey -- John Boss, 40, of St. Paul, Missouri
2017 Toyota Tundra -- Yvonne Gentry, 53, of Hazelgreen, Alabama

Police say each of the vehicles had come to a stop or were driving very slowly due to construction, except for Fast, who told police he thought he fell asleep. Fast's semi hit the rear of the Francis's car and a chain reaction followed, involving the six other vehicles.

The crashed caused the Peterbilt, GMC and 4Runner to catch fire. They were considered a total loss.

The first spread to the tree line near the interstate, but was quickly contained by the Lake of Egypt Fire Department.

A passenger in the Corolla had to be extricated from the vehicle after a team of good samaritans had pushed it away from the burning vehicles. The unnamed Samaritans had also pulled all occupants of the burning vehicles from the wreckage, saving their lives.

All vehicles involved except for the Tundra had to be towed from the scene due to the damage.

Francis, Sutton, Shaikh, Boss, and Gentry received minor injuries.

Fast, Williams, and Gwinn were uninjured.

I-24 eastbound was closed for about an hour. I-24 westbound was closed for about five hours for crash investigation and scene cleanup.

Fast was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and driving while fatigued.
