New art gallery to open in Herrin

HERRIN -- A Herrin woman is opening a new art gallery to highlight the work of local artists.

Herrin native Victoria Hartley has always had a passion for art.

"I think everyone either has a chip in their soul for music or art or the literary arts, where God gave us a specific talent," she said. "My talent was always art."

Now after years of working out of the field, she's diving into what she calls her dream job at her new art gallery and studio in Herrin.

The gallery will showcase the paintings, photographs and other work of local artists.

"I think that it reaches a lot of people that may not have the opportunity or the time to see the fine local artists that we have," she said.

It will also feature art classes for people of all levels taught by professional artists, as Hartley says she hopes to share her love of art with everyone in the community.

"I don't care if you've ever picked up an art brush," she said. "You can come in to an open studio and have fun and experience it."

The ribbon cutting for the Hartley Art Gallery and Event Center will be on August 18 at 100 S. Park Avenue in Herrin.
