Carbondale Splash Park holds 24-hour Aquathon fundraiser

Posted: Updated:

CARBONDALE -- The Carbondale Splash Park will be open all night as part of a 24-hour fundraiser.

The Aquathon kicked off at 7 p.m. and will run through 7 p.m. Saturday night.

Sponsored swimmers will do laps in the pool or loops around the lazy river.

All proceeds will go to the Carbondale Park District's Capital Campaign for the Super Splash Park, which seeks to cover a $175,000 shortfall in funding from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources PARC Grant.

The park was expecting a large crowd late in the evening and an even bigger crowd tomorrow during the high heat of the day.

Donors may pledge a specific donation per number of laps or lengths completed during the designated time periods of 7 p.m. to midnight, midnight to 7 a.m., 7 a.m. to noon, and noon to 7 p.m.

Individuals who would like to help, but don't want to swim may sponsor an individual swimmer, multiple swimmers, or a group or organization.

More information is available at at http://www.cpkd.org/aquatics or may be picked up in person at the LIFE Community Center or the Super Splash Park.
