Road closures on Route 13 beginning Tuesday

Posted: Updated:

WSIL -- As Route 13 grows from four to six lanes, that has brought the need for several improvements to intersections where drivers enter and exit the highway.

People like Karen Cupp, who live along and around Route 13, travel the road daily.

But as it expands, IDOT officials said it's no longer safe to cross six lanes of traffic to get to the other side.

You may notice the change at Samuel Road near Crainville.

Such safety changes are something Cupp said she glad to see.

"With people texting and driving and doing all the things that they are doing, I think it's a good idea to be safe," Cupp said.

While Samuel Road will open Tuesday morning, the intersection of Route 13 and Main Street in Crainville will close for similar construction.

People trying to cross traffic should use the new overpass from Crainville or the signal at Carterville.

While the changes to the intersections might be inconvenient, officials said it's all about the safety.
