Late night storms cause damage in southern Illinois

Posted: Updated:

WSIL -- Thunder, lightning, wind and rain hit parts of southern Illinois Thursday evening. The News 3 Weather Warrior Tony Laubach took to Williamson and Franklin Counties as the storms moved through.

There was flash flooding in several areas, including Herrin. Tony also reports wind damage to trees in Benton. A tree was blown on top of a house there.

The storms caused widespread power outages in the region. Traffic signals and rail road crossing lights have been impacted. Some limbs and debris may still be on the road, so use caution when driving.

If you come across water covered roads or power lines on the street, do not attempt to cross. Report the damage to the police.
