Timeline: A look at the Pravin Varughese case

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON COUNTY -- We've provided a timeline of events leading up to Thursday's indictment of 22-year-old Gaege Bethune in the 2014 murder of SIU student Pravin Varughese.

It begins on February 14th, 2014, when Varughese disappeared. Five days later, police found his body in East Carbondale, along Route 13.

In June of that year, the Varughese family's private autopsy found "blunt force trauma" as the cause of death.

About six weeks later, the Varughese filed a wrongful death lawsuit in the case.

In March of 2015, Jackson County State's Attorney Mike Carr recused himself and sent the case to a special prosecutor.

This is still a developing story. We'll bring you details as they become available.
