Callie On The Job: Egyptian Exterminating

Posted: Updated:

MARION -- For a lot of people, bugs are the enemy and exterminators come in and save the day. Callie got to see what it's like to be one of those heroes in this week's Callie on the Job.

Andy Murrow is the third generation at Egyptian Exterminating, a local pest control company out of Marion that was started by his grandfather in 1962.

"Basically, when things get out of control or people can't handle it themselves, they call us," Murrow says.

Murrow says It takes being an amateur entomologist, part acrobat, part contortionist to be a good exterminator.

Egyptian Exterminating encourages yearly inspections so problems can be treated before they get out of hand.

Inspections are just one part of the job, the other part is treating structures that already have pests.

Exterminators have several methods of pest control. Andy typically likes to use bait inside cabinets, and spray pesticides on the ceiling and baseboards.

Andy says if you have a roach problem, don't be embarrassed. Sanitation doesn't play a part in getting roaches but it does play a part in getting rid of them. He advises to be sure to pick up the house, and make sure there are no dirty dishes out when trying to get rid of pests.
