Board to vote on proposed cuts to SIU budget

Posted: Updated:

CARBONDALE -- A new financial sustainability plan outlines massive changes for SIU.

SIU trustees will vote on the changes at a meeting Thursday in Springfield.

The report cites cuts of $26 million, just short of the 30 million President Randy Dunn originally proposed in March.

It would eliminate several programs and merge others, like the College of Sciences, with others like the College of Liberal Arts.

It would also transfer several programs from one college to another.

The plan also proposes doing away with the following academic programs:

BA and MA, Mining Engineering,

BA, Business Economics

BA, Physical Education Teacher Education

BA, Africana Studies

MA, Political Science

Ph.D, Historical Studies
