Search for SIUC chancellor may be close to an end

Posted: Updated:

CARBONDALE -- The search to find a permanent chancellor for SIU may come to an end this week.

Tuesday, President Randy Dunn recommended Dr. Carlo Montemagno as a candidate.

President Dunn said Montemagno, "stood out among the six finalists because of his vision and ability to build and lead complex organizations."

Dr. Montemagno, an internationally recognized expert in nanotechnology and biomedical engineering, currently serves as a professor of engineering in Alberta, Canada. Prior to that, he served as dean at the University of Cinncinnati, and a department chair at the University of California at Los Angeles.

If approved by the board of trustees, Dr. Montemagno will fly from Alberta to take on his new role as chancellor at SIU.

Interim chancellor Brad Colwell won't leave SIU. He'll take on the position of vice president for academic affairs, a job that has gone unfilled since 2014.

Dunn recommended Dr. Montemagno for the job, but that won't be official until an approval vote by the SIU Board of Trustees.

That vote is scheduled for Thursday.
