Mt. Vernon shooting suspect now charged with murder

UPDATED: MONDAY, JULY 10, 2017: 4:15 P.M.

MT. VERNON -- Prosecutors have now charged Roderick S. Oats, Jr. with three counts of first degree murder.

He's being held on $3 Million bond.

According to court documents, prosecutors say Oats shot Carlos T. Johnson with the intent to kill him.  

A court date for Oats has not been set.

UPDATED: SUNDAY, JULY 9, 2017: 9:30 A.M.

MT. VERNON -- Police arrested person of interest 18-year-old Roderick Oats Jr. in connection to the shooting. 

They found him just before midnight on Saturday.

ORIGINAL STORY: SATURDAY, JULY 8, 2017: 7:30 P.M.

MT. VERNON -- Police are investigating a shooting in Mt. Vernon.

It happened around 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the 700 block of South 25th Street.

Police on scene have not released details.

A family friend confirmed to News 3 a man has died. Police did not comment on the claim.

News 3 has a crew on scene and will provide updates as they become available.
