Teachers gather for eclipse workshop

Posted: Updated:

WILLIAMSON CO. -- Teachers from all over the region gathered in Herrin Wednesday for a lesson on the eclipse.

Rend Lake College hosted the event at the Herrin Civic Center. Teachers took part in exercises about how to safely view the eclipse, but also on how to make learning about the eclipse fun for their students.

Greg Hollmann was an instructor for Wednesday's workshop.

"What you're seeing right here now is them using different size balls to eclipse various size suns," Hollman told students.

Hollman says the eclipse is all about the distance between the earth, moon and sun. It also only occurs when the moon is in the new phase.

Teachers will be able to take the information from the workshop to form lesson plans.
