Miss Illinois crowned in Marion

MARION -- With the Miss America pageant approaching in September, Abby Foster was chosen on Saturday night to be the state's new Miss Illinois.

Foster, 20 of Danville, was crowned in Marion and won $10,000 in scholarships, according to a press release.

“It was so surreal,” Foster said in a statement.  “When they called my name, my mind went blank. I just thought, 'Wow, these people just changed my life.'  I cannot wait to go to Miss America.”

The Miss Illinois pageant had four runner- up positions, each receiving some form of scholarship: 

  • First Runner-Up, winner of $3,000 scholarship: Janna Harner, Miss Heartland from Dongola
  • Second Runner-Up, winner of $2,000 scholarship: Stephanie Dearwester, Miss Quincy from Paloma
  • Third Runner-Up, winner of $1,500 scholarship: Sheridan Hurtig, Miss Land of Lincoln from Mundelein
  • Fourth Runner-Up, winner of $1,200 scholarship: Alexandria Strother, Miss Chicago from Chicago 

The pageant featured a talent competition, fitness competition, swimsuit contest and an evening gown competition.
