WSIL -- Hundreds of people gathered at Rend Lake on Saturday to remember Marine Lance Corporal J. Kyle Price by doing what he loved: fishing.

Family said Marine Lance Corporal J. Kyle Price loved to fish, and hundreds of people remembered him by doing just that in the 10th annual Kyle Price Memorial Bass Tournament

Price was killed in Iraq in 2006, but those who knew him still carry fond memories.

"He was fishing with me and his little brother the day before he was took off to go over seas," his father John Hunsell said.

Mike Coleman, who grew up with Price, helped sponsor the event.

"Kyle was kind of a jokester," Coleman said. "He was just a lot of fun all the time, kind of just always put a smile on your face. You'd always see Kyle smiling."

And Saturday, those loved ones shared memories with the hundreds who came out to fish in his honor.

The event had a large bass contest, a raffle and lots of food.

Proceeds went to the Lance Corporal J. Kyle Price Memorial Foundation, which supports military-related causes.

Price's mother said it can still be hard, but she's overwhelmed by the support from the community.

"We're just so thankful that they're willing to help us continue doing what Kyle inspired us to do," Cheryl Price-Hunsell said.
