Unsung Hero: Jim Hayes Inc.

HARRISBURG -- Jeepers are preparing for a fun weekend all to support a good cause in southern Illinois. It's all made possible thanks to the generosity of southern Illinois businesses.

"Without Jim's [Hayes] 41 years of public service here, we wouldn't be here to help Hospice out and support our community," said Jim Hayes Inc. Sales Manager Jeff Winters.

Hayes says it's important to give back to the community that has made his company successful over the years.

This will be the second year Jim Hayes Inc. has sponsored the Jeep Jam Poker Run benefiting Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Jeff says the event is all about fun and fund raising.

"Just have a good time, a chance to show off their jeep, a chance to travel around southern Illinois. We're taking them to some stops people haven't heard of, trying to give back to the community," he said.

Jeeps will start at the Bonan Business center in Harrisburg. The first stop is at Shawnee Restaurant and Lounge, then they will travel to the Chocolate Factory in Golconda, then to the Sand Bucket in Hamletsburg, Diver Down Steakhouse in Golconda, and back to the Bonan Business Center for prizes, a live auction and dinner provided from Morello's.

"Our goal is that you have fun," said Jennifer Vinyard with Hospice. "You're raising money for a good cause but we want you to enjoy the day and have fun."

Vinyard says this event would not be a success without the support and behind the scenes work from Jim Hayes and their employees.

"Just to see how their employees and everybody gets behind this and embraces it. And the thing about it is they don't want any recognition for what they do, they just want to give back to the community."

Jamie Hayes has been working on the Jeep Jam Poker Run for months now.

"Hospice is a great organization. It is a non for profit and what the people need to understand is they need businesses like ours to support them," said Jamie.

Whether you own a jeep, or you simply want to support a good cause, you're invited to join in on the fun next weekend.

Jeeps will take off from the Bonan Business Center at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 17th. The cost is $20 per jeep and you can register beginning at 8:30 a.m. You can also stop by Jim Hayes Inc. to register in person.
