SEMO prepares for the solar eclipse

Posted: Updated:

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO -- The Total Solar Eclipse is just less than three months away. Southern Illinois is preparing for the event, but so is southeast Missouri.

SEMO has several events going on August 21. There will be a weather balloon launch at 11 a.m. at Houck Field. There's a space carnival 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Normal Avenue between Academic Hall and Kent Library.

Wrapping up the day, famed scientist Dr. Michio Kaku will speak at the Show Me Center. That event begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be available starting July 1. They are free, but you do need to have one to attend the event.
