The wonders of science put on display in Du Quoin

Posted: Updated:

PERRY CO. -- Du Quoin Middle School clubs got a chance to demonstrate what they do for fun on Thursday.

Students in 4-H and the Area 51 Science Club showed other students what they've worked on for the past several months.

Some students demonstrated what happens when you mix one chemical with another.

Eighth grader Reese Rodely says he joined the science club so he could build a robot for a "battle royale".

"We've spent the past 3-4 months just putting it together, maybe once or twice a week during our lunch hour. We just followed the instructions and we built it, and then we put our own designs on it," Rodely said.

Everyone involved encouraged students interested in a fun after school activity to join the science club next school year.

"...really these guys are the future of the science careers, the science community, and it's cool that they get started this young," said Darin Hicks, 8th grade science teacher.
