Harrisburg sees spike in crime

Posted: Updated:

SALINE CO. -- The City of Harrisburg has seen a recent spike in violent crimes.

In the past month there's been a stabbing and a shooting in the community, and Mayor John McPeek says that is concerning.

The mayor will hold a public forum with the Harrisburg Police Department next week so the community can voice its concern and offer help in curbing the violence.

"I think we have to get the community involved, the churches, any civic organizations that want to get involved to get these kids off the streets and find something for them to do," said Harrisburg Mayor John McPeek.

The forum will be held at 6 p.m. next Monday at the Harrisburg City Hall.

McPeek says that the community needs to band together to stop the violence, and encourages people to call police when they see crimes.
