SIU students move home for the summer

Posted: Updated:

CARBONDALE -- While some students graduated from SIU with a diploma on Saturday, others only said a temporary goodbye.

Saturday marked the last day to move out off of campus for the summer.

Families brought vans, trucks and trailers to move their students out of the residence halls at SIU.

University housing residents, many of them freshman, said their first year of college taught them more than just how to hit the books.

"It's a good experience for you to grow up and see things in life that you might need in the future," said student Shawntrai Sutton. "It's also a way of showing the hardship that you've got to go through in life like working, taking school and paying bills."

Students had until 7:00 P.M. to be moved out of the residence halls for the beginning of the summer break.
