Storm damages homes, property near Mulkeytown

Posted: Updated:

FRANKLIN CO. -- Tuesday's storms left destruction near Mulkeytown, where three homes and a pole barn suffered major damage.

A tornado just a couple miles south of town destroyed a house on highway 184. It crumpled a jon boat against a tree, scattering debris hundreds of yards away from the foundation, while moving east across the field.

The home on River Road was spared, but the pole barn was not.

The homeowner narrowly escaped the path of the tornado, taking shelter in his cellar. But the new car he parked inside the barn to avoid hail damage was damaged.

The twister continued east, carrying tractor tires and other farm equipment nearly a half mile away before slamming into the middle of a home on Yellow Banks Road, exposing the framing and duct work.

Right next door, Sean Meadows, his wife and their 18-month old son, braced for impact hiding in the shower just as the strong winds hit, bringing down the roof and walls, trapping them until first responders could arrive.
