CARBONDALE -- Carbondale city leaders are planning to host a series of concerts during the Solar Eclipse event this August.
City manager Gary Williams says the goal is to create a festival-like atmosphere.
He expects the concert line-up to feature high profile musicians but, it has yet to be finalized.
Carbondale city council passed a resolution in January that will allow people to take drinks outside of bars on certain streets near town square during the eclipse.
Williams hopes the eclipse festival gains Carbondale national recognition.
"We don't want this to be a one time festival," said Williams. "We're looking at this as a way to introduce people outside of our region, around the country to Carbondale and have enough things going on to encourage them to come back next year and the following year."
Carbondale leaders plan to set aside nearly 10,000 extra parking spaces on the outskirts of town.
They plan to provide a shuttle service for people who park there.
Evangelist Franklin Graham prayed on a sidewalk outside the Pentagon Thursday after his invitation to a prayer service inside was withdrawn because of comments that insulted people of other religions. More>>
