Paducah semi fire blocking interchange

PADUCAH -- Paducah Police are investigating the fatal crash at the intersection of Cairo Road and Interstate 24.

Preliminary investigations show that the driver of the semi-truck and trailer was traveling east on interstate 24 and exited off the interstate at Exit 3.  The truck went down the off-ramp and across Cairo Road then struck an embankment. 

The semi-truck was fully engulfed in flames when first responders arrived on scene.  Witnesses told officers they did not see the driver get out of the truck.

A name is not being released at this time.

Cairo Road and I-24 eastbound exit ramp were closed for several hours as members of the Paducah Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team reconstructed the collision.

PADUCAH -- Crash scene is clear. All lanes have been reopened.

PADUCAH -- The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet confirms that the semi crash and fire is a fatal accident.

The closure will remain in place for at least another 4 hours.

ORIGINAL STORY

PADUCAH -- A semi fire just off Interstate 24 at Exit 3 has traffic backed up Tuesday morning.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet reports that a semi caught fire along Cairo Road at the Interstate 24 Exit 3 Interchange.  

At this time all lanes of Cairo Road are blocked between I-24 and Olivet Church Road immediately off the interchange. Both the EASTBOUND Exit and Entry Ramps at the I-24 Exit 3 Paducah Interchange are also blocked.  The closure is expected to last until approximately 2 p.m.

Motorists are asked to detour using Interstate 24 Exit 4 to US 60.
