Makanda boardwalk offers new eclipse-themed cafe

MAKANDA -- This year's upcoming solar eclipse has brought a new and unique dining option to Makanda.

The Eclipse Kitchen opened its doors on the town boardwalk in August.

The name and decor represents the 2017 solar eclipse, which should draw tens of thousands of people to southern Illinois.

Owner Jackie Baker says planning for the Eclipse has only just started.

"I think that everyone's excited about it. Nobody knows what we're going to do. It's hard for Makanda to take any kind of numbers down here. We're just going to do the best we can with what we've got," she adds.

Baker tells News 3 her restaurant features home cooked foods, made with ingredients purchased from local farmers and at farmers markets.
