Person arrested after teen shooting death

UPDATE 4:00 P.M. DECEMBER, 9, 2016

VANDUSER, MO. --  Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter tells News 3 that one person has been taken into custody in connection to the shooting death of Cole Kirkpatrick.

Sean Thomas was arrested shortly after the incident Thursday evening. 

Sheriff Walter says Thomas is charged with armed criminal action and involuntary manslaughter. He's being held at the Scott County Jail on $5,000 cash bond.

ORIGINAL STORY

VANDUSER, MO. -- Authorities in southeast Missouri are investigating an accidental shooting.

Police were called to a home in Vanduser Thursday evening.  According to coroner Scott Amick a person at the home was handling a shotgun when it accidentally fired, striking Cole Kirkpatrick, 19, in the head.  

Kirkpatrick was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death has been reported as an accident, but the Major Case Squad has been activated.
