Brandon Richard joined the WSIL news team in December of 2016 as weekend evening anchor and weekday reporter.
Before moving to Southern Illinois, Brandon was a reporter at KCTV5 in Kansas City. Prior to that, he was a reporter for KJRH in Tulsa, Oklahoma and KPLC in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Born and raised in Oklahoma, Brandon studied broadcast journalism at the University of Central Oklahoma. He also served as an anchor, producer and reporter for the university’s student run television station.
Throughout his career, Brandon has interviewed and covered several politicians and celebrities, including former President Bill Clinton, Vice-President Joe Biden, comedian Jay Leno and boxing legend George Foreman. He covered several stories that made international headlines, including the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill on the Gulf Coast, the 2013 Moore, Oklahoma EF-5 tornado and the Kansas City Royals World Series championship.
His work has been honored by the Radio Television Digital News Association, the Associated Press and the Society of Professional Journalists.
When he’s not gathering news, Brandon enjoys watching reality TV shows and YouTube. You can also find him rummaging for treasure at area thrift stores and visiting local parks with his dog, Remy.
