Perry County soldier serving in Afghanistan among 4 killed in suicide bombing
TAMAROA -- A southern Illinois soldier serving in Afghanistan is one of four Americans killed in a suicide bombing, Perry County authorities confirm.
The bombing happened at Bagram Airfield in the northern part of the country early Saturday morning.
According to Perry County Sheriff Steve Bareis, that solider has been identified as Tyler Iubelt, of Tamaroa. Bareis said Iubelt was a student at Pinckneyville High School and joined the army right after graduating.
The sheriff says Iubelt's family is working to recover his body from overseas.
According to U.S. Military officials, the bombing at Bagram airfield killed two US service members and two contractors.
The Taliban released a tweet claiming responsibility for the attack.
Bagram Airfield has been targeted by militants in the past, but this is the first time a bomb has exploded inside the base.
