MARION -- With the general election less than a month away, Williamson County still needs help making sure the vote goes fairly and smoothly. They need election judges.

Williamson County election leaders believe this election could be the highest voter turnout since 2008. Early voting seems to have drawn quite the crowd for this election.

"We've averaged about 94 a day so far," says Williamson County Clerk and Recorder Amanda Barnes.

Barnes has seen early voting snowball over the years as more and more people choose to get voting over with. But with an expected high number of people at the polls, Barnes needs more election judges.

"Judges are the ones who are making sure that it's registered voters who are listed in their book or listed on the applications who are actually getting to vote, not someone who is registered to vote," explains  Barnes.

Williamson County has 65 precincts. Barnes usually has around 325 judges and tries to have five election judges in each location. Judges can be as young as a junior or senior in high school and need to be a registered voter and from the county.

Training classes will take place November 1 at the Knights of Columbus Hall. They will be at 10:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m.

"We encourage all of our judges to attend the training because it's nice to get that refresher when you only do this once or twice a year," says Barnes.

It will also earn you $150 if you get to the training. Barnes needs judges in Herrin, Carterville and Johnston City.

If interested in being an election judge, call 998-2112.
