Callie On The Job: Southside Lumber

Posted: Updated:

HERRIN -- A few weeks ago, News 3's Callie Carroll brought down the house as she took on the task of house demolition, and this week she helped to fix a house. Callie went to work with Southside Lumber in this week's Callie on the Job.

Southside Lumber is a third generation family owned Lumber Yard and Home Center. For 70 years, they've been working with southern Illinois builders, contractors and home owners.

Assistant Manager Greg Prince says, "From the foundation to the roof, we know what you want and when you're going to need it. Trying to stay two steps ahead of you and make sure all those materials are here as you need."

Southside's 42 employees work together to make sure every order is fulfilled. Drivers get an invoice for each order so they know exactly what they need to deliver.

Once the order is checked, then it's time to deliver the load to the job site. Often times finding the job site can be one of the trickiest part of the job.

When the driver arrives at the job site they use the Moffett, which is a portable fork lift, to unload the supplies.

Drivers start making deliveries at 7:00 a.m., and run them continuously all day.
