CARBONDALE -- Just three times in the history of the SIU football program, have the Salukis beat an FBS team. Nick Hill hopes to make it four, in his debut as the Salukis' head coach.
All the work that the Salukis have put in during the off-season leads up, to this week one game against Florida Atlantic. Now the Salukis have FBS wins against New Mexico State in 1983, Indiana in 2006, and Northern Illinois in 2007.
Last season, the Salukis almost pulled off the upset against Indiana in week one, Falling by a final score of 48-47.
"Going back to the games we won, the two years we beat an FBS team, we played really well on special teams," said Hill. "We got an onside kick, we made long field goals. We got an onside kick at end of game to beat Northern Illinois. So, special teams and turnovers are huge, just like in every game."
Nick Hill's debut as the Salukis head coach, begins at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday in Florida.
