Waterloo uses big fourth quarter to beat Herrin

Posted: Updated:

HERRIN -- The Herrin Tigers dropped their season opener at home to Waterloo 28-18.

The Tigers jumped out to a 12-0 lead, but the Bulldogs scored 14 straight to lead 14-12 when the game was suspended Friday night due to lightning.

Once play resumed Saturday morning, the Tigers regained the lead on Jacob Downen's touchdown pass to Tate Johnson.

Waterloo owned the fourth quarter though, scoring twice while keeping Herrin's offense in check.

The Tigers will host Carterville next week.
