WSIL – The Williamson County Relay for Life event was held at John A Logan College on Saturday.
While dozens gathered in the parking lot to help raise awareness and money for a cure for cancer, one young girl stole the spotlight.
Isabella Borgens is six-years-old. Two years ago she was told she has a brain tumor, but at the start of the event on Saturday she let the crowd know she is not giving up.
With her mother by her side, Isabella got on stage and sang “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten. Lyrics from the song include the lines, “This is my fight song/Take back my life song/Prove I'm alright song.”
Isabella’s mother, Kati Borgens, said they recently went to Florida as a part of her “no more chemo” party. She was able to stop treatments in May.
“She just had an MRI on Tuesday and they’re looking for no growth. And we’re always praying and hoping that there’s no growth. And this time it was stable and the doctors are happy,” Kati Borgens said. “Though we wanted chemo to make it shrink … we’re just happy she’s here with us today.”
Isabella led the "survivor's lap" as she was the only one in attendance who has been a survivor for less than a year.
