Callie On The Job: The Custard Stand

SESSER -- Staying cool in the heart of summer isn't always an easy task. But a local eatery in Sesser is mixing up cold treats for its customers. News 3's Callie Carroll visits The Custard Stand in this week's Callie On The Job. 

It's cold, it's orange, and it's held by the Statue of Liberty. I'm talking about The Dream Cone, and the only place you can find it is at The Custard Stand in Sesser.

The Custard Stand has been a summertime favorite since 1949, and it's been owned by the Lappin family since 1985.

Mark Lappin says, "You can't get this anywhere else. You can't get the atmosphere, you definitely can't get the orange sherbet, we've got the only employees like this."

The product they serve is actually ice cream, not custard. Many years ago, the restaurant was called Ye Old Dairy Bar. Somewhere along the way, it got renamed The Custard Stand and the name stuck. 

The Custard Stand says social media has really helped their business over the last few years. 

"We are busier than we have ever been, ever been. Lines to the road, lines to the road, and our girls, I mean they just run their little legs off, and they get the product out the window really fast with a big smile on their face, and it's just a joyful experience," explained Sheri Grob, manager at The Custard Stand.
