Callie On The Job: Caring Transitions

Posted: Updated:

MARION -- As the years go by we all accumulate more stuff. Callie is on the job learning about a company that helps families sort and organize possessions.

Caring Transitions focuses on senior relocation, downsizing and estate sales. They aim to take the stress off of the decision making process involved with years of accumulated stuff.

"We know how to make those decisions," said owner Dawn Crimson. "A family that's trying to choose what to do with all these things themselves are usually very sentimentally tied and it's harder to decide to let something go or to decide what to do with it if you aren't going to let it go."

Crimson says her favorite parts of the job come from the stories and the history that go along with each item found.

"There's a reason that thing came into the house, there's a reason that thing stayed in the house and sometimes those stories are absolutely fascinating," she said.

Caring Transitions' current project is the old Wye Supply store in Marion. This "no frills" discount store originally opened in 1950. Then after changes in ownership and a fire, it closed for good in 2005. Now Caring Transitions is cleaning and organizing the store that's full of old items and memories.

The Wye Supply One Last Time sale takes place Saturday, May 28th at the store on Old Route 13. Other items will go up for sale ahead of time in an online auction.
