CARBONDALE -- Professors and other experts gathered on the SIU campus gathered Friday to talk about the future of energy.
The forum focused on renewable energy and a new long term interest of turning ocean waste into an energy source.
Research like it is expensive. Right now SIU has a hole in its research budget of more than $100 million it normally gets from the state.
"Complaining is not my philosophy, complaining goes nowhere. We have to find a solution but be optimistic, being optimistic is a very good part of our world you know," SIU Engineering professor Thomas Wiltowski said.
Friday's forum also focused on job creation in southern Illinois.
The group will meet again April 6 at SIU's student center.
