American Coal announces additional layoffs

GALATIA -- American Coal has announced 50 additional layoffs at its mine in Galatia.

Forty-four hourly and six salaried employees have been let go, effective immediately. 

The company says the reductions are "due to the ongoing destruction of the United States coal industry by President Barack Obama and his Democrat appointees and supporters, and the increased utilization of natural gas to generate electricity..."

American Coal previously laid of 86 employees in May and 112 more in August. 

Approximately 450 people continue to work at the mine.

THE AMERICAN COAL COMPANY ANNOUNCES FORCED WORKFORCE REDUCTIONS
The American Coal Company ("American Coal"), which has directly employed eight hundred
thirty-three (833) families in the State of Illinois, regrets to announce that, due to the ongoing destruction
of the United States coal industry by President Barack Obama and his Democrat appointees and
supporters, and the increased utilization of natural gas to generate electricity, it has been forced to make
some additional workforce reductions. Specifically, American Coal has laid off forty-four (44) hourly
and six (6) salaried employees, effective immediately.
American Coal will continue to employ approximately four hundred fifty (450) persons. These
are some of the highest paying and best benefitted jobs available in Southern Illinois.
