Tony is the WSIL "Weather Warrior" and weekend morning meteorologist at News 3. He grew up in central Ohio before heading out to Colorado where he resided for 14 years before moving to southern Illinois in February 2013.
Tony joined the News 3 team over the summer of 2013 shortly before beginning his studies at Southern Illinois University where he is currently working on a Master’s degree in Media Management and New Media Production. Tony graduated with his Bachelor’s of Science in Meteorology and Technical Communications from Metro State University of Denver in 2009. Tony has worked in TV News as well as been featured on the National Geographic Channel and Discovery Channel’s “Storm Chasers”.
Tony is a veteran storm chaser, having seen more than 250 tornadoes since starting in 1997. He has accumulated over a quarter-million miles from chasing storms all over the country. One of his most notable intercepts was the Pilger, Nebraska twin tornadoes from June of 2014 where we documented two EF-4 tornadoes on the ground at the same time. He carries the nickname, “Hailboy” for his love for big hail and the countless dents all over his chasing vehicle.
Tony enjoys living in southern Illinois, taking a break from the bustle of the big city, and enjoys the central location in the country for storm chasing. Outside of weather, Tony enjoys bowling, Martial Arts, amateur radio, traveling, and photography. He is a lifelong Washington Redskins fan and proudly wears the number of his childhood idol, Art Monk, on his ventures across the country.
